My Linksys router of 3.5 years just died. I ran off to buy a replacement 10" after discovering its untimely death.

I walked into CompUSA and saw a whole isle of routers. I almost bought the same Linksys adapter and remembered how much of a pain it was to set up. Then again, I was new to it all.

I opted for the D Link Wireless 108G MIMO Router. Why? I don't know. The pretty packaging? The weight and feel of the box? The $30 rebate that I have to mail off? Who knows and who cares. I was drawn to the words in red and white "Get Connected in Minutes" comment on the box. I recalled it took me 45" with the Linksys and a couple of calls to Technical support at 11 PM 3.5 years ago. I thought of Netgear but it wasn't on rebate and I wasn't a fan of buying something to see it on sale 21 days later for $50 less.

It boiled down to rebates and what was on sale. I had an old D link Network card in the past and it served me well.

I take the router out of the box; there is a CD saying run first, a plug and a blue network cable. I put the disk in and every step of the way, I get instructed to set up the hardware. It took about 10". Now, I am back online. Whew! what a crazy 60". From the time of the death of my router to being back online a less than an hour later. Thanks D Link. That was the least painful installation of my life. It took me longer to drive there than to set it up (drive = 12 ").

We'll see how this performs while I test it out before the 21 day return period expires. I gotta mail off that rebate paperwork too before I forget.

    Thanks for listening

Update: I checked the signal around the house and I am getting Excellent signal everywhere. This is in contradistinction to the Linksys WRT54G with the large antennae (? 11 DBI).

I will update whether my Tungsten C gets better signal. It is more sensitive to low signal networks (I was able to surf in my parking lot until 6 of the neighbors got WIFI). There were definite dead spots with the old Linksys using that down (everything out of the line of site of the stairways had patchy coverage).
