I just got my new dv6000t machine yesterday and im setting it all up now and having success mostly. Only problem Ive had is with my torrent software (utorrent) that I get a blocked port message and really slow speeds. The port is 49721 by default, and the page I am directed to when i test the port through utorrent tells me I need to forward it. Did that and the torrents connect OK, but speeds never go more than a few kb/s while uploads go slightly more, but not much. Even after forwarding them properly I get the blocked port message when testing. I am on Vista and have a linksys wireless router.

Also, the computer I had before this and this brand new one have had the same problem as somewhat frequent interuptions in the internet connection. Lasting only a minute or so there will be no connection, the it just comes back on. Have changed routers as well and still has the problem.

Did what you said and changed the port and still not going much better. Different torrents from different sources all doing the same thing? I think I may try a different torrent program next, any other suggestions?

It is possiable that your ISP is restricting bandwidth. Some ISP blocks them all together. Try using shiledsup buy grc and see if the ports are open.

Thanks for the great link, ran some tests on it. My ISP is cable and I have had great downloads from websites, upwards of 850kb/s sometimes and I am able to good speeds on my p2p program, KCEasy. I tried using bitcomet as well but that posed problems of its own, its like Vista hates torrent programs or something. Anyway I tested the port 27471 (which utorrent is operating off of) and it tests the stealth status, which it states is good for my computer to have and it passed all except the ping reply, in which it says I replied to their ping, making me vulnerable. Is windows protecting my ports in a manner that its prohibiting them from fully functioning? With this new Vista setup it seems there is a lot of protection and I have to allow permission for just about anything, could that be the issue?

Hey guys fixed the problem. Problem was actually with the ISP, i noticed that no matter what the downloads wernt going more than 30kb/s and there was a small notification in utorrent saying i am bheind a firewall or my ISP is limiting my connectivity so I encoded the download and the speeds just jumped. However, the port is still showing as not open and the notification is still there even after forwarding the port, what sup with that?
