Ok, so I have a Netgear router WGR614 v6 and a Westell Model 6100G modem with verizon as my ISP. I'm trying to make the router work with the modem but I can't.

I had to get a new modem because my old one was fried. I got the same model modem but can't seem to get this working! I did the exact same steps to get it working on the old modem but it work!

What I had to do before was set the modem into "bridged mode" and disable the private DHCP server and that was it. But when I try that now, the router doesn't get internet access when I try to set it up. One thing I noticed is that when I switch it to bridged mode and connect it to the router, the DATA light doesn't stay on when I connect it to the router and on my old modem it was always on.

I also reset the router and no luck.

Is there a reason you cannot use just the netgear router?
Based on a google search it has the hardware criteria to supply both wired and wireless internet which would eliminate the need for the modem.
Also, one of these site1 site2 may help but Im not sure.

I thought it wasn't possible to use a router without a modem. I don't have it with me now, but I remember the instructions for the netgear router said to connect to a modem.

The old modem was fried in a thunderstorm in my area. Could it be possible that the netgear router was damaged a little since it was connected to the modem? Maybe the port where I connect the modem to the router?

What? The modem and router do different things.

Did you get the modem from Verizon? Does it work when you connect your computer directly to the modem?

Yes. Verizon sent me a new one and it works when I connect directly to it through ethernet (when not in bridge mode).

EDIT: I just bought a Linksys router and tried everything again. Everything is working fine now. Thanks everyone.
