My first post here. I've been using the Linksys WRT54GS v.2 for the past few years. My wireless devices are 4 laptops, 3 smartphones and 1 Brothers printer. For the past couple of weeks, though, my laptops have been losing Internet connections on average of about 2 times a day. Interesting things is that all other wireless devices have never lost the connection. The problem is only with the laptops. When reconnected, it'd say "connection is limited." There are no issues with my Internet provider, Comcast.

When I called Linksys, they told me that because there's no firmware update with this router model, I should just go and get a new one as it's been several years that I've had the router. Is this right, i.e., the hardware problem or is it something else that I'm not being aware of?

Try an new driver, or sometimes try an old driver as sometimes new drivers can be buggy, also you could try adjusting the driver setting in device manger, but be careful and record anything you change.

Thanks, John, for your reply. Unfortunately, there's no new driver for this model. Instead of dealing with the hassle of trying to fix this, I just purchased Almond Securifi router/range extender. Am about to install this and see how this goes.

I bought an t-link range extender for £30 it also has an lan/network socket on the bottom that i use with my Xbox 360, that is two birds killed with one stone.

Good luck with your new purchase :)

Well my neighbour has a tp link router, it keeps doing exact same thing, doesn't authenticate with my laptop, and several other, after a few hours. Don't know if it's due to some usage patterns or something, phone and my tablet keep working fine. After a reset it works fine again. It is a fairly low end one...

On the other hand I got a mid end and a high end D links, both work flawlessly. Had a free one that provider gives, that thing just crashed when there's more than 3 things connected... There's a lot of botched up routers, both software and hardware wise. Asus rt-n55u(I think that's the model) had issues where it wouldn't even connect over wifi until they released new firmwares for it fixing the issue, which would really me off if I spend nearly 100£ on a brand new shiny router with super powers.

Always read reviews and do research, before buying anything really, the hour or two will save a lot more time than that, as well as money compared to buying a lemon.

Umm, i'm a little confused... Why dont purchase another router with 5 antennas?
Smartphones and tablets are easier connected than laptops.... And sometimes maybe you failed to connect results from your Fire Wall setting...
Well i don't know if i was right... lol
