Hi, tried chatting with dell support and its not working. I re-installed drivers on my new dell 9300 after reformatting, including the Broadcom 440 x 10/100 integrated controller for ethernet. Still don't have the wireless icon at bottom right of screen ( a picture of a computer with little squiggly "radio wave" lines) which I had before the reformat job. I have confirmed through looking at computer->properties->system info / hardware devices mgr that there are no question marks next to network adapter. The network adapter is numbered '1394 Net Adapter.' I am installing to c:dell/drivers and the other drivers are working like audio and touchpad and so on. I don't want to restore cause i installed so much already (eg visualstudio). Any knowledge on this one? I've scoured the forums to no avail already.
    Thanks, Paul

Hey Paul, sorry to hear your having some trouble with your wireless. The first thing I have to ask is if the Broadcom 440 and 1394 are all you have listed in your networke adapters because the 1394 is actually for your firewire connection. You should also have a Wireless adapter listed as well. If everything is listed with no questions marks or anything then you should check the Network Connections folder Start>Connect To>Show All Connections. You should have three listed under Lan or High Speed. If all is well there then right click on the Wireless icon and choose properties. Make sure there is a check mark in Show icon in notification area when connected, enabling that will then show the icon on your taskbar when you are connected. :)

Ok I thought the network adapter was the wireless - so i ignored the next one which DOES have a question mark(in the system info hardware view (no driver)) which is titled 'other devices'. This 'other device' must be the wireless since there is nothing in the system hardware labeled that? If so i'm not sure what wireless driver to get.

That should be your wireless adapter. All you need to do is go to Dells driver site, enter in your system information and under network drivers select the one that matches your system, it should either be the Intel Pro 2200 or the 2915. The link is included below, good luck and if you have anymore trouble, drop me a line. Dell Drivers

The other device was the wireless! Great the 2200 driver did the job, thanks! One tiny q-- win media player can play dvds given you have a decoder, right? Or do i need windvd?

You will need a decoder...the standard is CyberLink PowerDVD. You can request this CD from Dell. You can use other decoders like windvd, but you will need some kind of decoder to play DVDs.

Personally, I use PowerDVD. I tried a few others but did not get very good results. If you want to use Dell Media Experience, you will have to use PowerDVD.
