I currently have verizon online DSL and have a lot of disconnects and will be switching to road runner for 34.95/month for first 12 months and 45.95/month afterwards. I pay only 19.99 for Verizon's DSL but i just have too many disconnects and I am sick of it.

I am also buying a new computer from dell as well to replace my old desktop computer. However, i estimate that it would take about 7 days or so to get my computer. Would you say its a better idea to wait till i get my computer and install it and then call to get road runner or would it be fine to call them and get it now. Because i really want to get road runner as soon as possible but I'm worried that if they install it first then i have to do some changes when i get the new computer?

Reason why i ask this is I am not sure how they install road runner. Would someone come to my apartment and set it up or would they just send me something? How long would it take for them to install everything on average? Do you remember how many days it took for someone from Time Warner to come over to set everything up?

Can someone answer these questions for me?

    Thanks.

Im not from the US but i assume roadrunner is cable internet. Basically it uses the same coax line as cable TV.

A technician will most likely come to your house and set up a new point (unless you already have one) and install a modem. Takes less than an hour unless theres issues regarding your house. Its best you have a computer at hand just to test the connectivity. The process is very similar to a Cable TV installation.

As for changes on a new computer, thats easy as cake. They will likely install a modem/router which is likely to be all plug and play. If not, just ask here..

I just switched from AT&T DSL to Roadrunner for the same reasons. Also, in Los Angeles, several people I know who ordered the Roadrunner Turbo are regularly getting speeds of 35mbps. Dealing with TimeWarner customer service has been much better than AT&T. AT&T installations must be scheduled long in advance, I would frequently get slow downs or disconnects and when I moved it was quite inconvenient as they actually needed to end my old service contract and start a new one, with a new DSL dry loop number.

TimeWarner was able to schedule installation for the very next day. The tech came to my place and once he turned on the service in the network panel it took him about 30 seconds to set up the modem/router and activate it and I was getting 35mbps.

The "wired" modem is provided free of charge, but if you want a wireless modem, you must request it in advance when ordering the installation, as the sales rep does not offer it as an option, and they charge you $7 per month rental fee. I understand they have several categories of wireless modem, not sure if one of them is 802.11n, and you don't get to choose which modem the tech will bring out for the installation.

Call them (RoadRunner) ASAP! It took them nearly 2 weeks to get me connected! And all it took like 5 mins of work for the tech. He (the tech) should have a little device that checks whether the connection is ok. I don't know what kind of connection you're getting, I have $35/mo cable. Works OK.

You call them and setup the appointment. The techs (in my place) could only come Mon-Fri 9-5pm and they give you 4hr time frame when you have to be at home. Freaking doodly "awesome" if you're actually working and not at home the entire day. The idiot couldn't even call me 20mins before he's going to be at my place so that I had time to come home from campus.

Keep in my at all times, you are going to be dealing with utter and complete idiots, with whomever you talk to at Time Warner. After that is accepted, you'll understand better. You'll get connected though. Eventually...
