I have a Linksys WRV54G router and every like two days it just "resets" itself (at least thats what I call it) and I have turn off all the pcs on the network (wireless or wired) and I have to disconnect my cable modem from the power then I have to disconnect the router from the power wait about 30 seconds reconnect the router then reconnect the modem and turn on the PCs and it will work again. And when it does it again I have to do the same thing. And I know its the router because the modem still has all the lights solid like if it was in perfect working condition but the internet is not working, so the only thing it could be is the router. The router is brand new and cost me $160 dollars so its not some cheap router. Do you guys know what is happening and how I can fix it? Would appreciate the help.

    1. the lights on the cable model may or may tell you that that is where the problem is. the only way to be sure is to plug your computer straight into the cable modem (bypassing the router altogether) and let it run for a couple days to see if the problem repeats itself. just assuming it's the router because the lights are still on the cable modem is not a good way to isolate faults; you may be heading down the wrong path.

    2. sometimes i have the same problem happen with my setup. i have to cycle the power off/on with my router and modem. sometimes i don't have to do it for weeks. sometimes i have to do it several times a day.

    3. you should update your router's firmware to the latest version and do the same with your notebook's nic to the latest drivers (assuming you haven't already done so).

Well i got the latest drivers for my notebook's nic, like my post says the modem works fine because all the lights stay working and I have tried the direct connection between the modem and my desktop computer and it doesn't do that but I'm not sure I have the latest firmware for the router I'll check it out when I get home.

    Good Advice.

I have similiar issues (different Linksys Router) - and like you mentioned inconsistent. I am on a good roll lately - couple weeks of stability but have had days with numerous disconnects only solved by complete power cycle of all components.

Frimware upgrade is essential. Are you running any security ? Check to make sure all the cards support whatever you are running and they have the latest drivers. Some firmare supports WPA / WAP2 better than others - try without security see if it makes a difference.

A good resource for Linksys is http://www.dslreports.com/ Forms / Linksys

Well its not just one computer that doesn't work its the whole network, all the computer and devices on the network don't work. I have my desktop, my sisters desktop, my laptop (wireless), my friend's laptop (wireless), and then I got my xbox and when this happens nothing works. And I have tried it without encryption and with different types of encryption and nothing I will try updating the firmware today.
