    Hello all,

    I'm a new forum member and I some help I have recentky purchased a Toshiba Portege M780 w/Windows 7 Pro 64-bit that uses the Intel Centrino 6200 wireless chipset. Like other people whose laptops have this chipset, my wifi connection drops randomly. However, after reading this thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/480994-wireless-keeps-turning-itself-off.html), there does appear to be a solution a particular revision of the driver should fix the issue. Unfortunately, the thread is locked, so I can't get an answer to two questions I have regarding this:

    1) Does anyone still have a copy of the 13.2.1.5 software and/or driver? The intel site no longer lists it, and the new version number is 15.1.1. Instead of taking chances, I'd rather use the driver/software package that is known to fix the problem.

    2) Does anyone know if the entire softwate package needs to be installed, or just the driver? The reason I ask is that I have uninstalled a large portion of the IntelPro software suite fto streamline the system, and I'd rather not have to go through with that again if at all possible. So if the just the driver can be installed without the software suite, I'd like to know (if it can, how to extract the driver from the .exe package without running and installing the whole package).

    Again, sorry to have to ask this here, but the original thread is long closed, and I can't be sure that the original posters would be able to respond in any case, so the expertise of members of this forum is greatly appreciated.

    Intel offers the drive only and the driver + package as separate download, so you could just grab the driver. As fas as the driver versions go, you could try the old one.

    I checked in my files, and it seems the oldest version i have dates from september 2011. Personally, i'd just give a go at the latest driver, uninstall your current one through the device manager just in case, and install the new one.

    The issue could have to do with something else, too far from the router/access point or just a bad router.

    I appreciate the quick reply. I'm sure its not a router/access point problem, as it still happens when I am right next to the router with the Portege - while my other wireless laptops have no problem anywhere in the house. Regarding the drivers I've found a link to the older version I was looking for, and as you stated, both the driver pack and the software + driver pack are available. Howver, both are in the form of .exe files, and the instructions say to just run them without first uninstalling the previous versions.     The question now is whether or not to unintall the drivers first, as you suggested, or run the driver pack .exe without the install, as Intel suggests. What are your thoughts on this. Also, I have a small concern that the drivers may not work with the firmware and intelpro software I'm currently using, (version 13.1.1.1) but I can't really see whay this would happen. Again your thoughts (and previous experiences) would be greatly appreciated.

    Had no problems installing drivers either way. I suggested uninstalling just in case you get remnants from the older driver, it's rare, but it happens. Try installing on top of the ones you got and if you still have slowdowns, the remove the drivers and try again.

    I don't see why the intel drivers would be incompatible unless Toshiba had a driver specifically written for them which honestly would be rather surprising.
