I have dsl with a router/modem/switch. Its a 2wire 1701hg and i got it when we switched to dsl from cable. Im having drops when using utorrent and setting my connetion to the speed im setup on. Even if i set it to one quarter the speed!! If i go in utorrent and set less allowed connetions it will stop the drops, but then it will download in handycapped mode, seriously handycapped!

Im trying to find something similar to replace the 1701hg with with similar feature. For instance, i prefer to buy something that is a all in one solution, such as i have now.

    Heres one at comp, http://www.compusa.com/products/pro...35102&Pn=5590_ADSL_Modem_Switch_with_Wireless

We have 4 wireless notebooks and one wired desktop that connect. Most of the time only 2 wireless are turned on.

I really would prefer the all in one unit over having two or three seperate systems to play with. I also would prefer to find something at the local stores incase it doesnt work any better i can easily return it. All those PC/ofice stores are very near by.

Make sure your dsl signal is not dropping out. The led will change to amber or red if it looses connections. Also some ISP clamp heavy users. If you are not using the 2wire PNA function to connect through your house, I would recommend moving up to a SMB class router. then add a seperate AP. You should be able to bridge the connection in the 2 wire over to the new hardware.

I do not like all the hardware in one box. Generates a lot of heat and causes problems, like your experising.

The DSL connection is not dropping. Ive had line monitors running and the drops never showed on them (via DSLreports.com). Which means, dlsreports line monitor can see the modem durring these drops.

My broadband link light is normaly green. When i get these drops, it changes to a yellow blinking light and usualy comes back within 20-30 seconds.

It has something to do with the connections im allowing via utorrent. Im guessing the router cant handle those connections since it doesnt happen when i lower them manualy. And to further explain,

I can set utorrent to my DSL speed (with default speed connections per torent), then set the allowed connections/per torrent LOWER and so on - in the options and it will remain normal. It just wont allow me to grab onto enough seeds to get a decent download speeds.

But if i just set the default options (connections per torrent and so on) for my DSL speed, it will crank pretty nice, but ever 5 minutes im looking at a blinking yellow light.

Most DSL like the 1492 MTU value. Some as low as 1400.

I have seen several cases where the DSL signal would degrade and drop out like you are experencing. A phone service guy disturbed a connection and created a power drop. Took the ISP to boost the voltage levels on the line to correct.

Yeah that is a good point. Especially if he's on a fringe service area with some distance to the CO.
