Does anyone know of a way to access my laptop while on a different network without the use of something like GoToMyPC? I would rather programs/protocols/options already embedded in Windows such as Remote Desktop Access but if I need a 3rd party program, its acceptable as long as its free. But I would like to be able to access my files from different physical locations and networks. Does anyone know how?

There's LogMeIn Free. I've used that and liked it because I didn't have to screw around with ports and whatnot, also, there are no plugins needed on the machine you'll use to view yours, just Java for the browser.

I'd also recommend Live Mesh, but it's remote desktop app requires you to install an ActiveX control on the machine you'll use to view your own, something that most people cannot do to restrictions and such.

I have used logmein before. It works just fine.
Also I once used a program called "teamviewer" With teamviewer you don't need to open a web browser to start remote connections.

LogMeIn is very good...the Windows built-in Remote Desktop is a bit messy, it requires forwarding ports on Routers/Modems etc. and it may tend to be slower than LogMeIn. I highly recommend LogMeIn.
