Looking just to connect 3 networked devices (2 PCs, one WiFi router/cable modem), maybe expand to 4 in the future. 10/100/1000 speeds are a must.

I was thinking about either D-Link or Linksys (I had good experience with L in the past), but who knows.

I have 2 D-link switches the DGS2205 non managed very small foot print switch just plug and go, works great. They also have a 8 port version of this too, get the larger if you already have 3 of the 4 ports used. I also have a larger 16 port DGS1216T managed switch which is loaded with features. Either one is a good unit I know that the DGS-1216 has been upgraded so it will have a lower heat than the old model I have. Mine has 2 40mm fans for cooling that you will hear in not in a rack.

I think smallnetbuilder.com tested some switches a while back.
