    Hey,

Im using a 6 year old Vaio Z1 with a 1.6ghz Pm centrino and it still works decently, but wireless reception and speeds are a bit lacking.

atm it has an Intel Pro/Wireless 2100 3B Mini pci adaptor now, and was wondering what i should get to upgrade it? should i replace it with another Intel, or get an Atheros of some sort?

anything is fine really as long as i can finally get 54Mbps and its not that expensive. i will most probably have to get off ebay since i live in australia and its pretty hard to get random stuff like that locally.

    cheers

The Intel 2100B card is very dated now
Very low throughput as it’s a B card only and the reception range is poor as well
Even a Intel 2200BG card will be a huge upgrade
    And cheap too

Go for a EnGenus 8602+S if you have changed your mind on cost issues
Usualy $50us + shipping, it the very best
Post back if you do end up getting that card as I have a great very hard to find driver for it
The Intel 2200BG is in my opinion 5 times better than what you have been using for 6 years

If the increase in price over the 2200BG is ok it will be a better card
The more current the card the better
