I'm thinking on buying the range extender for my linksys WRV54G router but will it make a big difference or a minimal difference? How I have it right now I can use the internet wirelessly on my laptop with the intel 2200 wireless nic 3 houses down and across the street from where I live it won't work inside the house but outside by the sidewalk it does. But I need it to work inside the house will buying the range extender make it work?

Sure, if you install it on the edge of where you get good reception, it should push your cloud much further out, in the direction where you place it.

Yes linksys has some good range extenders that can even just plug into a wall. I was going to get those but turns out i didnt need them becasue the wireless single is great around my house. :)

It will work 3 houses down the street, but not inside your own house? That's a little odd. Do you have the router near a window that looks out to those three houses? Try repositioning the wireless router first.

Try a different channel. Sounds like the in house signal might be getting stepped on.

It works inside my house fine but inside the house 3 houses down it doesn't, it only works outside the house but I need it to work inside that house. Inside my house it works perfect. I was thinking of getting the high gain antenna do you guys recommend any other antenna / range extender?

Okay ...now I get ya ... yes that is expecting a little too much out of it to be working 3 houses from yours. In fact you're doing good to get the signal on the sidewalk 3 houses down. I would first try a directional antenna on your laptop. Hawking makes the HAI 15SC which they claim is a 15dBi gain antenna - I use one of those and am very pleased with it.

Then if that doesn't give you enough signal either reposition the wireless router or get a range extender. If that Linksys you have is the one with the two antennas, there was a homebrew shield/reflector that is floating around the internet, which, when put around the antennas, gave some directionality and should improve your reception 3 houses away. In fact you might want to try this first.

Sorry, your first post sounded like your net worked three houses away but not in your house. :) http://www.freeantennas.com/ might have what you need.
