I just recently purchased my first laptop, i was just introduced to laptops.
I have dv6000t. Should i buy a good range wireless card for my laptop? Since my router's overall distance is horrible. Also i noticed the dv6000t has a easy slot to insert a wireless card. Also how do i secure my wireless connection. I noticed my bandwith significantly decreasing, i believe my neighbor is on my connection.. :(

    Regards

Vista has a lot of driver problems right now, so make sure you have the most current drivers.

What brand and model router are you connecting to. In most cases the antennas can be upgrade correcting the problem. But certain brand routers are not very good.

If your router distance is bad a new wireless card for your NB will make no difference. If you NB has a Raylink 2500 replace it with something good. The raylink is what my NB came with, has a distance of about 10' and still drops connections. So I have a PCMCI card. The built is more convient and can be replaced very easly in most NB.

As for routers there are alot to chose from. It all depends on your specific needs. But if a router has short antennas (for 11b/g only) they are low gain type, min length for a 5dbi is around 6".
