I'll be buying a new notebook soon. And i'd like to have it with a wireless connection. However i'm unsure if it would work casue it will be one floor under the router. My deskpc is installed in a third floor, and I will mostly be using the notebook on floor under. The celing is concrete so i don't know if it will work ok. My internet speed is 600 kbps. Shoul I wire all the way until the second floor? an wi fi router will be ok? suggest me please

Well I moved this to the Networking forum, you will get more responses in here. :p

As to your question. I think it will be okay. I can pick up wireless from half-a-block away and I live in a brick house, so I don't think you should have a problem. :) You might not get the maximum speed, you might be at 11Mbps instead of the 54Mbps of the G. Which would still max out your internet connection. :p

So I think you should be fine.

Remember that the typical antennas that come with the routers are omni-directional on a horizontal plane when the antenna is straight up. Just try adjusting the antenna's to a 45-degree or horizontal orientation and you should be able to at least pick up the signal from the floor below.

Yes, you might lose some speed due to signal not being at max. You shouldn't notice the speed drop, unless you are transfering large files from one computer to the next.

If you are talking about internet speed, like loading webpages, no you shouldn't notice a difference.
