i am buying a laptop that comes with the Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card, but at my house i have a wireless a/g router...will the N card be compatible with the g router?? or will i need to buy a new router, and if i buy a new N router, would a laptop with an a/g card (brothers laptop) be compatable with it??

I don't really care about if the N card won't be any faster without the N router, i just want to know if it will be compatible. The router i have is a Linksys 2.4Ghz g router.

    Thank you

Well, what model wifi card is installed, and what do the specs for that card say?

As for the router question - if the router supports g, then it will support any g card.

it just says that it's Intel and 802.11n. I have a G router right now...If the G router doesn't work, i don't mind buying an N router, but then my other comps that are a/g probably won't work on the N router...right??

What laptop are you buying? I'm certain that somewhere in the laptop specifications the exact model of the Intel card is listed.

All cards and routers that support 802.11n will also support 802.11g.

    Google this:

    Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card

You'll find it's actually the 4965AGN card. It supports all bands currently in use by routers. It will work with your Linksys router.

When you're looking at laptops, and the exact model isn't listed for a piece of hardware, fire up your favorite search engine and enter the terms given by the manufacturer. You'll be glad you did!

N cards connect to G networks fine.
