OK, I am having a hard time deciding to go wireless or not. I line in a two bedroom apartment. My current Desktop is in my "spare bedroom". I however would like to watch TV and football while paying bills or keeping an eye on my Fantasy Football league. I am trying to decide to keep the router in my spare bedroom or move it to the tv room. i am thinking I may get better results if I am closer to the router. I have read that the router should be away from the TV and/or Microwave. The set up i wish to do the router would be 10 feet from the TV and close to the microwave. I can watch Tv from the kitchen but it is an entirley different room. Need some help to see if it's worth setting up or should I just leave my desktop and not worry about getting a notebook and be wireless?

I'm really confused about your question. Do you have a notebook or are you thinking of getting one? Do you just want the PC to be wireless?

Anyway, a good wireless router will cover the whole apartment no matter where you place it.

Operating any 2.4Ghz product near a microwave (that's powered on) is never a good thing, microwaves operate at the 2.4Ghz frequency range. I tried putting my 2.4Ghz phone beside the microwave while it was on, and all I could hear was clicking (interference). But as I moved further away, the clicking started to lessen. So, as Brian mentioned, you will get coverage where ever the router is located, but try to keep it away from the microwave while the microwave is on (nuking something).

Even the 'noisiest' wireless connection will be faster than your internet connection, typically. We have a 2 phone 2.4 GHz system and a Microwave, and I've never had the internet (3 Mbit cable modem) connection compromised.

    First PC = Vic-20, 8" 128KB Home-Brew Floppy Drive ... Current Rig = eMachines m6805 ... Quantum Leap?

If the router is close enough to the microwave, you will notice overall performance drop or even a connection drop. Since a Wireless B network connection transfers at 11Mbits/s (max), it's more than fast enough to work with a 3Mbit or less internet connection. If transfering files to another computer via wifi, having it near the microwave will cause you to loose packets due to interference. When transfering files to another system on the network makes the wifi utilize its max bandwidth, so any interference will cause a performance drop.
