You have to setup the network.

Go to Network Setup in the connections in the control panel. Run this on both computers. When you are done, shut off the windows firewall, this will only cause problem on the network detection.

Make sure when you do the wizard that you enable file/printer sharing.

Once that is all set up on both computers right click the folders/drives you want to share and then when you see them on the other computer on the network (in My network places). Right click and map to that folder...or add a shortcut.

You can also check Nick's sticky about setting up the network ( I think he has one).

Good luck! This is a quick guide and I did it in my head, so it should work but some of the terms might be different.

    Hope this helps.

Drag it to say...like your desktop...or make a folder for them. It is easier that way...or you can just go into network connections and find them manually. :)

    All up to you! :)

On the right hand side it should have like My Network Places with a plus sign...click that. Then go to entire network...can you see the computer now?

You made sure to run the setup on both already right?

Also...if your computers aren't auto detecting you need a different cable. The one you are using is a straight-through...you need a cross-over cable. (Forgot to ask about that)

Don't you need a reverse connection for a direct link? I'm pretty sure you do, that's why I made my own little pigtail which worked fine... it's called a crossover cable...

Darn, took me too long to post and someone else beat me to it!

You need a crossover cable for the xbox-laptop connection or you need to have xbox-router-laptop in order to use regular ethernet connections.

Are you connecting FTP through a particular dashboard? I get the best connection with XBMC, which has a built in Filzilla Server. user=xbox, pass=xbox

Of course I use Filzilla FTP client as well, since you can download the precompiled builds from "the usual places" on it as well.

yes, an xbox ethernet cable is just a regular straight through so you need a crossover.
