I got a new Acer 5672 and a D-Link 524 router. I enabled wireless in both, and Windows can see and connect to the router. However, that's where problems start happening. If I have WPA encryption on, it connects, but there is tons of packet loss and I get speeds of less than 1Kbps. If I turn on WEP encryption, it doesn't connect at all. Windows keeps trying to connect and never manages to. If I turn encryption off, then it connects and I get full download speeds, but the wireless icon in the tray says "disconnected" the whole time, and eventually the connection just drops. I can connect fine with an ethernet cable which is what I used for now.

The normal starting points are to:

    1) Update your driver in the notebook
    2) Update the firmware in the router

If you do this and it still fails, try connecting to another router to see what happens.
