    Hello everyone.
    To help everyone understand, I running XP pro on two desktops, the family computer (on wired connection) and my desktop (on wireless). I also have just purchased a HP DV6450us laptop running Vista home premium (on wireless.)

    Now, I have had problems with sharing files and folders between the two XP machines before. The family computer will not detect that my desktop is connected to the network, no folders or shared printers at all. (but the family computer will detect itself.) Now, my desktop will not only fail to detect the family computer, but it wont even detect itself! My notebook will do the same thing as my family computer, detect itself but not my desktop. (I haven't tried accessing the folders from the family desktop yet)
    They are all setup for the proper workgroup and have tried to setup the network via the wizard and manually. I have tried with firewalls on (with the trusted domain setup) and off... nothing.

    Any suggestions? Thanks!

    My router is a Netgear WPN824 v2. I just recently replaced my D-link DI-624 with that one. Both routers have had this problem

    I have the mcafee securitycenter that my comcast provides.

    Make allowances in your firewall settings for each computers ip address and see if that fixes it.And make sure both computers are on the same network in the same workgroup and the folders are shared.

    I've tried that too, no luck. Individual ip addresses are set to trusted on both comps, on the same network on the same workgroup...

    Disable all FW's All PC's. Reboot, with FW off. Disconnect the ISP connection for added security, while every thing is down. Some routers have a security features that prevents local users from seeing each other, disable if have.

    Are you using the Shared Folder or are you defining others. Do you have the same ID & PW on each pc?

    Ok, what I have done is set all computers to static IP addresses. I have also setup the "manage network" setting on Mcafee, which shows a network map. All computers show up on eachother.
    I can successfully access files both ways from my family computer and laptop, but still cant access to/from my desktop. So if there is a problem, its with my desktop's settings.
    The odd thing is that it is setup just like the desktop computer... I cant see my local shared folders or other computers (but the other computers show up in the network map in mcafee.)

    EDIT: Here is the map
    [IMG]
    CRUSINIK01 = my desktop
    CRUSINIK02 = laptop
    White4120 = family desktop (which I had shutdown, so its "ghosted")

    do you have Mcaffe on the Desktop. Try Uninstallting it on a Temporaly. Disable all sharing on the Dekstop. Reboot then Re Share the Folders.

    Have you look at the network key to make sure it's correct?
