XP home on toshiba l25 fails to initialize devices that is mini port packet schedulers for Realtek, Atheros and WAN - reloading drivers does not work -
I presume trying to spruce up the registry has corrupted it.

Can someone tell me how to install XP home from recovery CD w/o formatting HD - or repair the registry?

Have you tried using system restore? And backup to a point where it was working.

The recovery cd wipe everything clean. Use any XP home CD and have it do a repair. It is an option on boot.

    backup anything just incase
    boot from the xp cd
do not choose to use the recovery console
    press f8 to accept license
choose the xp instalation and press r for repair
    follow instructions on screen
when it re-boots dont press a key to boot from cd
when its finished your setting ect should be intact
this is the answer to your question, im not saying it will fix your problem.
