disable your wireless when connecting via cable--does the problem continue?

And how is network set-up looking like? O2 modem/router in one or O2 and then another router on the side?

    cheers ...

When you switch from wireless to LAN you should disable your wifi in your laptop. Plus, you should also configure the LAN on your router and make sure that your laptop has the same domain name on it.
I see to it that the LAN id is different from wifi id to avoid conflict. :)
