    Hi
I have a samsung V25 laptop - a bit old now. I am experiencing a few problems now. I am unable to connect to broadband either (both ethernet cable and WLAN) but dial up connection working well. I am unable to come to a logical conclusion as to what is wrong.
I do not have any experience in disassembling a laptop and replacing the broken component. I intend to take this opportunity to open the laptop - fix the broken component and also upgrade my laptop (new processor and increased RAM).
I have tried using an external wireless USB device with no luck.
    Can someone help me?

Okay..i'm going to guess that u had the broadband service working up to recently. So from ur comments above i'm also guessing that u have a modem and a wireless router...what is the problem really, what exactly is happening? What OS (Operating System) are u running?

It seems like u suspect it's a defective component inside the computer...any specific reason why?

I am not familiar w/ AOLs service...help me out here..so I can try and help u.

It would also be helpful to find out if you are able to connect in another location.
It's not very likely that both the wireless and the wired connection went out at the same time on your computer unless foul play is involved(virus etc.). If you are trying to connect wirelessly and via wire to the router then it could be that the router needs to be rebooted or possibly the modem as well. Have you tried to connect to the broadband directly from the modem to your laptop? And when you say you can't connect to the broadband, can you connect to the router but have no internet or can you not even establish a connection between the computer and router via wireless/wire?

    Thank you for the reply
The broadband service is fine.....I can connect it to my other comp - IBM thinkpad.
I have been using the Samsung laptop for a little while now....all that time I connect to internet via the dial up connection - worked fine. When I switched to boradband a couple of years ago > for some reason I could not...tried various quick remedies without any luck (including direct ethernet cable connect to the laptop, using built in WLAN, using external WLAN USB device).
I investigated it a little bit as much as my knowledge permitted >The comp. does not seem to send any packets to the router....does it make any sense?
I strongly suspect there is something wrong with the hardware

I think it is rare that both the LAN and WLAN interfaces would go bad at the same time like that. Are u sure that those interfaces are enabled..when u plug in the cable from the modem directly to the samsung what happens on the screen. You may need to go to ur network connections folder and confirm that it looks exacrtly like the screen shots i've attached. For the Local Area Network (LAN) that is. And make sure the LAN adapter is enabled..right click on it to be sure. You should see it in ur task tray if it is....
