So I've been trying to set up a network between my old desktop (ethernet crossover cable) and my new laptop (Asus G1S-A1). The desktop is running XP Pro SP2, the Asus Vista Home Premium. I've done everything manually setting up the network; they see each other, I can see them in the "My Network Places" in XP and Vista. I can even grab files from the laptop and put it onto the desktop. However, if I try to access the shared files on the desktop from the laptop, it says it cannot find the network path and gives me this error code: 0x80070035. Any idea what is wrong, and how can I fix it?

Here some troubleshooting techs to try.
1.Make sure NetBIOS is enabled over TCP/IP.
2.Check Firewall and Security setting to make sure nothing is being blocked.
3.Make sure File Sharing is enabled on both computers.
4.Make sure to use same username on both computers, not so sure if the passwords have to be the same? -
Another thing to try would be setting up static IP addresses between the computers. I've found that static IPs work about 1000% better than Windows' "network places."
These instructions are assuming that you have your control panels set to classic view.
For XP:
Go to start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections
Right-click your local area connection and click on properties
Select "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" and click on properties
Select "Use the following IP address"
Set your IP address to something easy, like 10.10.10.2
Click on "Subnet Mask" and Windows will automatically assign a Subnet (make it 255.255.255.0 if Windows does not)
Click on "OK"
Click on "OK"
Windows Vista:
Click on Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center
Click on "Manage Network Connections" (on the sidebar)
Right-click "Local Area Connection" and click on properties
Select "Internet Protocol TCP/IP version 4" and go to properties
Follow the same instructions as Windows XP from here (but, if you're using my example IP address, make sure the last number is different. E.g., 10.10.10.3. Also make sure that the subnet mask is the same as your XP machine).
Assuming you've used my IP addresses and you have a shared folder name of, say, "cdrive" on the Vista machine, you can browse this share now by going to start -> run and typing in:
"\\10.10.10.3\cdrive"
You can also just go to "My Computer" and type the IP address into the address bar to pull up a full list of shares on that IP.
Just make sure that you disable the static IP if you want to connect to another network.
