Do you get that Login attempt when you are on wireless. For your wireless to work make sure it is:
1.Wireless isEnabled by going to start, connections, and double click on wireless network connection.
    2.Try repairing the connection.
3.Try going in a spot were others work, you could be in a dead spot.
What wireless card are you using?
4.If it is an external card, then try it in a friends computer to see if it works.
5.Search for wireless networks by right clicking the wireless computer little icon in the bottom right tray and then hit View Available Wireless Networks.
Try these things to see if it will work. Good Luck!

No the problem occurs when I'm on a standard ethernet connection. Everytime I click on a link to login in to my university's website, my bank website, and or my e-mail, immediatly after attempting to login a message says "Connection was refused when attemping to contact (Whatever site i was trying to access)."

Perhaps you encryption level is not high enough. I'd definetly try another PC. That will tell you if it is yours or the sites problem.

Yes, if the IP address turns up to be 168 i think (might be something different) but if it is 192 it should be alright there. I dont if this was mentioned but is your Local Area Connection Enabled? Are all your drivers installed and updated for your etherent port?

That should be 169.xxx.xxx.xxx and 192.xxx.xxx.xxx. If you get a 169 based address, that means you're network card is not receiving an IP address from the DHCP server (dishes out IP address to cards). If you get a 192 based address, then that means it's getting an IP correctly.

If you're getting a Logon Failure message, it's possible the wireless servers on the campus are setup with a Radius Server. This server will authenticate your wireless logon attempts. If you're account is there and everything is valid, then it should authenticate you, but if you don't have an account or something is incorrect, then it could give you this failure message. Best thing to do is to contact your school's network admin and see if your notebook is setup with the required security info to get online with your wireless card.

actually, it sounds like he isn't getting any IP info from his dhcp server since he can't connect to anything.

that's why it would greatly helpful to have that 'ipconfig' info so we can start fault isolation.

Everytime I run the ipconfig from the run menu, it pops up for 2 seconds and then disappears. I also ran norton anti-virus and knocked off a virus. I ran this one program called stinger that found a a worm on one of my system32 files, however I cannot remove the file, everytime I try and delete it it says, "cannot remove file" and something about unauthorized or it's protected. Norton can't remove it and/or find it, could this be causing the problem? I just don't understand why one day my computer is working fine and then another day it's not. I've been on everyone elses computer and have been able access the sites I want to go to. I went on someone elses wifi and it picked up 10 wireless networks which my laptop did about 5 days ago, and it cant pick them up anymore. I can visit most sites but, cant go to sites that require you to login.

you need to run ipconfig from the command prompt, not the run menu
