I bought a Precision M4400 that came with XP Pro installed and a license and DVD for Vista Business. It has an Intel 5300 wireless card. The 5300 is set on default settings.

I partitioned the HD and installed Vista in a dual boot. This is my first time to use Vista. I used a dual boot with 98SE and XP to learn XP when it was new. I thought the dual boot would help me learn Vista.

Now my wireless problem. The 5300 works fine with XP. You can see the little fan turn green when it connects after watching the ball circle the double monitor. In Vista all I see is the double monitor. I right click on the double monitors and it can't find any networks. The only way I can connect is to go to device manager and uninstall the 5300, leaving the software, and reboot. The 5300 will then be found and install the software. I then have to manually connect to my router. SSID is not broadcast on my router, so I add the network name and the security code for WPA2 Personal and it will connect. Everything is fine until I reboot, then it does not see any networks.

While I can see the both fan and double monitor in XP, I see the double monitor and a 5 bar symbol blinking first one then the other in the same place in the tray. Also in XP I can right click on the fan and open an Intel utility showing all available networks. I have not found an Intel utility in Vista, but I am new to vista and may not know where to look. I have reinstalled Vista 3 times with the same problem.

I would like it to connect automatically in Vista like it does in XP.

I did a search and did not find a cure to my problem. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Herman

I am not having any problem with XP, just Vista. I have gone to the Intel site and installed the latest drivers for 32 bit Vista, but it did not help.

If I don't reinstall the 5300 on each boot, it will not see the wireless networks. Even then I have to manually connect to the network. It is not automatic like in XP.
