When I am connected to the ethernet and try to switch to wireless, it doesn't work. I enable the wireless card and it connects, but information doesn't get transferred. The same thing happened when I was plugged in, hibernated my laptop, unplugged the cable, went to another room, plugged in the cable and tried to connect. It says it's connected but when I open IE I get "Detecting proxy settings" on the bottom and then a page not displayed. If I restart my computer, however, I can then connect fine. The same thing if I enable my wireless card and restart I can then connect to wireless. This is odd because it worked fine a couple weeks ago and I haven't changed any settings, although I did install new programs. Is there just some setting I need to change somewhere or is this just some quirk? Any help would be appreciated.

    Try this:
Go into IE > Internet Options > Connections tab > LAN Settings button > uncheck the "Use a Proxy Server..." option, as well as the other boxes (if they are checked).

Also, delete your internet files and cookies.

Let me know if that helps. ;)

Hey, this is my 2000th post!!! Yay :D :D

You should always restart your modem and router when you change to wireless to ethernet. Thats what i always have to do, and it will work properly.

I'm not quite sure what I did, because in fact I did nothing, but it works now. I went in to check the settings and they were already what you said they should be. Hopefully this problem won't pop up again, but thanks for the help.

EDIT: Actually, I just remembered that I did clear out the temp. internet files and cookies, so that must have done it. So thank you for the tip, it should prevent it from happening in the future.
