I've been trying to get my FTP port forwarded, but it just refuses to go. Its worked in the past, even though I have a dynamic IP, but this current install of XP (or possibly the updated router firmware) refuses to let me forward port 21. (or any port for that matter) any help would be greatly appreciated.

which version of the wrt-54g are you using, some of the later models after a firmware update require you to go to the administrative panel and revert to factory default, reboot the router, then do a second revert to factory default, reboot a second time then enter your settings, if it is an older model I would reccomend just dumping the linksys firmware and installing dd-wrt firmware wich is much nicer to use and has a ton more features such as Qos and full VPN support by IpSec and PPTP to name a couple

BTW, if you try the DDWRT and brick it please dont blame me, those newer ones are a pain in the lower anatomy, the 54G's were a case of the older the better

I don't plan on attempting that firmware, don't have a backup router and would rather not be tired to wired net. but, Port 21 is closed on xxx.xxx.xxx.xx :( (after the double reboot/factory defaults)

well, Its apparently the firewall in XP thats causing problems. because my new Vista laptop has no issues, however whenever I try checking the ports via my XP desktop, I get a "port closed on xxxx" message.
