Hi, I have a laptop Toshiba Portege R835-P94, I got a speed upgrade on my home internet to 5Ghz, but my old Portege is not able to take advantage of it. I get 30mbps on 2.4Ghz wifi now, when I'm plugged with the Ethernet cable to the router I get 170mbps.

This is the stock card I have now: Toshiba PA3894U-1MPC Wireless 802.11n Bluetooth Half Size Mini-Card.

Anyone has any suggestions on what card will be compatible? I've been looking everywhere but cant find an answer. I'm willing to spend up to $40.

I will greatly appreciate your help, thank you!

Intel 6230 would be a good choice. 2.4GHz and 5GHz support and Bluetooth integrated. That is unless you want to upgrade your wireless router to 802.11ac standard anytime soon in which case you should go for Intel 7260.

One more thing - I'm not sure if Toshiba uses white-listing. If it does you have to get a Toshiba branded card or remove white-listing. If it doesn't (which I think is the case), any card not meant specifically for HP or Lenovo will work fine.

You don't want to spend money on an Intel 6xxx series card if you plan on using 5Ghz. Go for the 7260AC or a Broadcom or Atheros card. Before the 7260AC series, Intel cards are not very good on the 5Ghz band.
