    Hi folks,

The Samsung NC10 I recently purchased arrived this morning, thanks to recommendations I got from various NR members. Upon booting it up and trying to get it connected online, I realised this was becoming a really annoying thing to do. At first I was getting my WEP password wrong, I think I’ve sorted that now but now I’m confronted with yet another issue.

While trying to figure out what the problem was, I logged into my Netgear control panel and changed the name of my router from ‘NETGEAR’ to ‘Zetzio’. Now when I’m trying to detect routers, I get two results. The NETGEAR one doesn’t connect at all, saying the network may no longer be in range. The Zetzio one asks for my WEP key, but once I enter it, it says limited or no connectivity.

I tried calling up Netgear technical support but they said they can’t help me because there is no serial number under my router, which means it is refurbished apparently. My internet works fine on my main computer, I can even connect to Xbox Live without any issue, but my Netbook just isn’t connecting.

I’m not very good with these technical things and I’m worried I have to buy a new router due to this missing serial number thing which is going to be so much hassle when I barely have any spare time lately. I’d really appreciate it if you guys could help me fix this and get cracking on my new netbook.

    My router is a NETGEAR WGR614 v6.

    EDIT 1

I tried using the 'repair' feature but it says Windows could not finish repairing the problem because it couldn't complete renewing my IP address. I hope that helps.

    EDIT 2

I have just connected online by manually entering my information to connect to my 'network'. I am guessing that connecting to my router and connecting to my network are two different things, but I don't really understand this kind of thing much. Even though I think I have solved my problem now, I would appreciate it if someone could explain what was wrong just so I have learned something from this for future reference.

A couple of things you could try.
Delete the "new" router name and go back to the original.
Re-boot the router (by unpluging it's power supply and leave off for at least 3 minutes) and allow Windows to configure your wireless connection.
DO NOT use the Netgear config program!!!

I have had similiar problems with a Belkin Wireless Router and by going back to scratch and starting again, letting Windows do the configuration, it all works as it should.

    Cheers

Have you upgraded the router's firmware? Also, at this point, the suggestion by others that you go back to square one and start again is a good suggestion. You might go all the way back and start from default after you verify that you've got the latest firmware by doing a hard reset of the router so it's back to factory defaults.
