well... the tittle says it all:

I have a wireless Linksys N Router, a wireless N card, and pay for 10 Mb/s internet, but still only get 30 Kb/s. Anyway to fix this???

Is there anyway that my modem could be causeing me a problem.

Please make sure that you are 100 percent sure on your solution, because i dont want to waste money here.

    Some advice...

is this 30kb from a website? cause this can be caused by a cap of speed by the site..

to see if the wireless n is the thing that is affecting speed, send a 1gb file over the network. see if it is faster than wireless g speed which is 54 mbps and n being 108mbps but that is only in ideal conditions. so its almost not reachable.

to see real bandwidth movement download netmeter or netstatlive and see your download and transfer rates.

NO matter what, a constant 30 Kb/s. Bit Torrent, Free Downloads.com, Itunes, etc. it is always that speed.

You may need to adjust settings on your computer or on your router, if they are both working right, then you need to contact your ISP.

So the first thing to do is find the source of the problem, going via wired connection is probably the first thing to do, to make sure its just not a wireless issue.

Also if you have a friend with a notebook, let them use your network and see what speed they get, that can eliminate all the hardware/software issues on the computer side.

Lastly then its try a new router or something (again if you can barrow one, or go directly thru your modem and bypass a router)

Only use wired to test your speed. Wireless can and will give you odd readings.

A bad modem can cause the problem. And if there is noise on the line can make the connection lower too.

Do a direct connect with out the router. This will give you a true rating.

If you by chance have a Belkin router they are not reliable. I do not recommend them at all.

Even when wired, it is still 30 Kb/s and my speed test shows that i should be getting 6 Mb/s wirelessly. So whats up???

If speed test is showing 6mbps it is correct. It highly possiable that your ISP is restricting the bandwidth for BT.

Download Cablenet and the aux pack. Then select the settings that best matches your ISP speeds.

If your MTU is to high it will cause problems. Set it down to 1492 for most DSL.
