So you cannot get an Internal IP when using this Router -

Do you have the latest Firmware from Linksys for the router ?
Have you gone to the Admin Page of the router to check that DHCP is enabled ?
Have you been able to see other wireless networks ?
Are you sure the Wireless service is running on the Laptop (in services)
Are you sure that wireless card supports WPA ? (you did mention no security and it did not work)

Have you checked Microsofts site for any incompatibilities ?

You metioned it worked once - when did it stop working ? What was changed ?

Yes, do what daacon said. Might get things working

Maybe try renewing your IP address by:

    Start
    All Programs
    Accessories
    Command Prompt
Type in: ipconfig /release and hit enter,
and then ipconfig /renew and then enter

    1. is the wifi card ON. make sure to check your hardware/software switch to make sure the card is actually ON

    2. can u connect to other networks?

    3. can u connect via ethernet cable?

    4. finally, go to the command prompt and type in 'ipconfig /all' and then post the results here. that will help with fault isolation.
