    Hi everyone!

Sorry for starting up a new thread even though u guys have been discussing greatly so far in the 'Wireless issues with Intel/Pro Wireless 2200BG'.

I own a acer aspire 1691wlmi with Intel/Pro Wireless 2200BG and have been trying to connect it to my BT voyager 2000 wireless router. The problem is that is will not detect my router on screen let alone connect to it. All my other computers in house can connect to the router via their adapters. The funny thing is my 2200BG detects my neighbours router which is a few blocks down the road lol, and is able to connect, though at a lower connection speed due to distance. I installed the latest intel drivers (9.0.2.25). but the problem is still present :( . I hope its just a compatibility issue.

I've noticed a few of you seem to have this problem too from the above thread but not talked about as much. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

    Tom

Try updating the router firmware as well.

Another update would be to Intel ProSet Wireless software. You can download it from Intel's website under the 2200 B/G drivers and downloads. I had a similar problem. I was able to pick up my neighbor's network, but I couldn't detect mine and would get errors all the time. Once I updated the drivers and software, everything worked fine.

His already stated that he has the latest drivers (9.0.2.25) so it cant be a the intel drivers. I'm guessing its the router that needs the update

    Xplodin,
Having the updated drivers is different than having the ProSet software. The drivers just allow the hardware to work, but the ProSet software is like XP's Wireless Zero Config, it allows you to control the card. The ProSet software doesn't get installed by default.

    Hftw,
Give the ProSet software, that SouthernGirl recommended, a try as this may help, but before you do try that, you may want to check your router to see if your SSID Broadcasting is turned on or off. If it's off, this could be the problem. I have seen some wireless cards not detect a wireless network if the router's SSID Broadcasting is off. Took me over an hour to figure this out after buying a Microsoft router & USB adapter.

Another thing you may want to check for is MAC Filtering on your router. This security feature only allows specific MAC addresses to connect to your router. If you have it enabled, you MUST enter you notebook's LAN & WLAN MAC addresses into the filter list, otherwise your notebook will never be able to connect to your router.

VB When ever i run the intel driver/proset installation i always get the proset even on a fresh install. I was just assuming that he installed the setup file not just update the drivers

Hmmmm....whenever I search for Intel drivers, the ProSet is usually a seperate download.

Thanks for your suggestion! My router firmware was updated two weeks ago and I still have the problem. I'll give the other suggestions a go and will let everyone know of my progress. Tom

    Sorry for the late reply.

Here is an email of what the Intel Technical support sent me when i requested some information about the Intel 2200bg wireless network connection. I've pasted it below as some of you may find it usefull!

""Thank you for contacting Intel(R) Technical Support

Please follow the subsequent instructions to verify the driver version of your
    Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection.

-Click on Start\Run and on the Open line type "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers"
    without the quotes.

-Right click on the file named W22N51.SYS and click on Properties.

-Click on the version tab and you should see the 'File Version'.

Please refer to the table below to make sure you are using PROSet with the
correct driver version. In order to check the version of the Intel(R) PROSet
software included in your system, it can be found under "Help and About". Using PROSet with a driver that does not match will cause problems to the adapter and PROSet.

The Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection driver and software table is the one below:

    PROSet ---------------------- Device Driver

    8.0.0 ----------------------- 8.0.12.9000

    8.0.0 ----------------------- 8.0.12.12000

    8.0.0.167 - ------------------- 8.0.12.20000

    8.1.1.0 ------------------------ 8.1.0.28

    9.0.1.0 ------------------------ 9.0.1.9

    9.0.2.0 ------------------------ 9.0.2.25

Please note: It is critical that you update the driver before you install the
new version of PROSet. If you have an older version of PROSet installed and you have profiles, you should export your profiles first. Then uninstall the old
version of PROSet. Update the drivers for the adapter, and then install the
latest version of PROSet. Once the new version of PROSet is installed you can then import the profiles you had previously exported.

The User's Guide for the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection can be found on the following link:

    http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/pro2200bg/index.htm

Once on the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection website, please click on the User's Guide link located at the bottom of the page.

Please be aware that the latest drivers and software for the Intel(R)
PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection can be found in the URL below:

    http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-010623.htm

We also recommend updating to the latest version of the BIOS for your laptop and the latest firmware for your Wireless Router/Access Point.""

With regards to my wireless connection, it appears that my wireless router is just incompatible with the 2200bg as the 2200bg works with just about every other router thrown at it. I guess my only hope is to wait for a newer driver to be released in the future to address this problem, or get a different router. Anyway I hope that what I've pasted above is useful and can solve your problems and thanks for all of your suggestions!
