Hi,
I am having a trouble with my D Link DIR 615 router, that it sometimes becomes slow in transmitting data. I recieve a 5 Mbit download and 10 Mbit upload from my provider if I directly attach a cable in my laptop. But by using the router the best I can get is 1,5 upload and 2 Mbit download. Sometimes this reduces to much lower and I am stuck in how to improve or prevent this data loss.
I have searched alot on Google as well as on Dlink homepage to get some answer without any luck, so I am trying to see if you have a solution to this problem.
thanks in advance for any help to improve.

You get these speeds (1.5 & 2) while connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable?
-
Yes these speeds 1,5 & 2 I get through WiFi
-
Check when you're connected via Ethernet wire.
If the speeds are equally low- that means router/router settings or ISP is at fault but if speeds are much higher when you're connected via Ethernet- that means wireless problems. -
I'd say it's time to run inSSIDer and check what your wireless environment looks like, if like downloads suggested the speeds are consistent with what you should get when wired.
-
I am almost sure that I have some problems with the wireless but I have no idea how to begin to solve it.I even have difficulty entering the setup environment, even when I can enter it its difficult to move from one side to the other side to see if there are some settings needed to get adjusted. It seems as if Dlink has difficulty with their servers.

It's not on their server but on your router.
Connect via Ethernet and check the speeds.
If you confirm that it's wireless follows tijo's advice and use inSSIDer to survey your wireless environment and then change the channel you're using to an unused one (or relatively free one) -
Thanks for the reply.
I have tested the speed and it gives a 5 Mbit download and 12 Mbit upload via ethernet.
What do you mean by changing the channel to a relativ free one? Currently my router is set to channel 11, and have difficulty entering the setup mode to change it, but will do it as soon as I get access to it. -
Run inSSIDer and you will get something like the picture attached. Out of channels 1,6 and 11, 11 is the one that has less wireless networks on it and is the one i would use, pick the one that is the less crowded out of channel 1, 6 and 11. If you are wondering why 1, 6 or 11, it is because those channels do not overlap at all so ideally, you'd want all wireless networks distributed equally among those three to reduce interference to a minimum for everyone. If you take a close look at the attached screenshot, you'll notice that most networks are at 144mbps, this is probably because there are too many networks in range of each other to allow proper channel bonding and thus speeds of 300mbps.
-
When you say 11 has the less wireless, are you referring to the amount of users that are using channel 11?
I am seeing different channels through inSSID, 1, 1+5, 6, 7+3, 11. -
Post an inSSIDer screenshot like the one tijo posted and we'll advise you on the best choice/choices of wireless channel(s).

Here it comes.

I can't see the screenshot, it might be me experience problems at university, but i'd check just to make sure.
-
I had some difficulty adding the image so I just add the url link instead it should show I just checked it.
-
Alright, it does, there is an attachment function on NBR if your image is under 500kb if you ever have problems. I would try channel one, you might want to check your wireless adapter settings as well in windows power management for example.
-
Thanks for the reply, I will set the channel to 1.
What settings should I look for for my wireless adapter? -
There is a setting in the power plan configuration in the advanced options to set the wireless adapter's power to be lowered to conserve battery if necessary. There is another on in the adapter's properties which you can access through the device manager.
