Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with windows updates up until now. I have a Linksys E2000 router broadcasting g/n. The laptop is only connecting to wireless g. When I set the router to broadcast only wireless n the laptop will not connect to the network. I tried downloading the wlan driver from the emachines/gateway website but the software utility said the driver to be installed was older than what was already on the laptop.

Would really like to get wireless n working.

The router is selectable 2.4 or 5 GHz, most likely you need to get it off 5.0 Ghz or set up the laptop to use 5 GHz as well. Not to sure with the normal internal card this can be done for 5 GHz only..........

Can you get n speeds from 2.4ghz? I have an access point that is g only and the router can't do both at the same time. I turned the router to n 5ghz only and the laptop would not connect.

I'm assuming that your laptop has a Wireless-N adapter (b/g/n and not b/g).

There are a couple of things to get Wireless-N at either 144 Mbps or 300 Mbps in 2.4 GHz band

    1. You can go to your adapter settings then make sure that anything that says "wireless mode" or 802.11n mode is enabled. If you have a channel width settings on the adapter, select 40 MHz or Auto

    2. On the router, select 2.4 GHz only band. Make sure the security is only WPA2 Personal / AES encryption.

    3. Change the channel width to 40 MHz or "20 MHz and 40 MHz"

    4. Go to Applications and Gaming settings. Under QOS settings, enable Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM)

This should let you get 144 Mbps - 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz.

It is the stock wifi card on a 7805u. I believe it is Intel 5100

Kindly follow the settings provided by Intel here:

    Page Unavailable

To access your adapter settings, go to device manager -> Network adapters -> double click on the Intel Wi-Fi link a/g/n. Go to advanced tab and change the settings according to Intel's recommendation.

All of the settings for the adapter were already configured correctly for the adapter.

Changed channel width to 40mhz on router, rebooted computer and now its connected at 48mbps instead of the usual 54mbps

edit: Now 54mbps, still not getting n speed

    Latest Intel WiFi driver/software v16.1.1.3
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/De...ntel+Centrino+Ultimate-N+6300+Series&lang=eng

    http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-034116.htm

Is your notebook in line of sight with the router with no walls or floor between the 2?

Is your router set to WPA2 AES Personal?
WEP and WPA-TKIP are not compatible with 802.11n.
Data rate will not exceed 54 Mbps when WEP or TKIP encryption is configured.

Is your Channel Width set to Auto or ??mhz?
    http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/sb/CS-030709.htm

Have you tried with power option set to high performance in control panel and in the wireless card properties>power management uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power"

If there's other wireless networks broadcasting in your area select the least used channel

Use the free inSSIDer program to see other networks in your area and channels.

Does Device Manager>Network Adapters show the Intel 5100?

If your system has support for Intel MEI update the driver if needed.
