    Hey guys,
First of all, I love my acer 8200.

Ok down to business. I bought a linksys SRX200 wireless/wired router today and hooked up my desktop via wire and laptop wirelessly. My desktop shows 100mbps connection and usually downloads around 700kbps on cable. My laptop, 2 feet away, is showing 54.0mbps and downloads about 350kbps. I know this doesnt have to do with my router because I dont think it would be slow and still cost $120. What settings can I change to get the speed up to 100mbps or around there? Is it due to the data encryption, or what? I'm new to wireless...

    Thanks

since your laptop is wireless, that is the correct speed. there is nothing you can do to make it faster.

cant help for the dl speed difference.

I am guessing your laptop has a/b/g and if so, its maximum speed is about 54mbps, unless you have speedbooster but i doubt it. anyways to match the speed of your router, you most likely will need a pc card that can handle the same speed of the router.

Plus it has to be external rather than the internal card you have now

54mbps is the highest speed for a/b/g unless you have the speedbooster, as people have said, but your internet should theoretically still download at the full 700kbps (that is still less than your 54mbps). You might find that it has to do with your network designating a certain amount of bandwidth to each computer, so your laptop may be limited to 350kbps...just a thought.

about half speed for wifi connection sounds about right. there's a TON of overheard involved when dealing with wireless connectivity.

Ok I decided I could boost my internet speed by plugging in via ethernet cable while the computer is just sitting on the desk. However, I only get 10mbps on the LAN. Arent I supposed to get 100mbps?

    Does your NIC support 10/100?

it should support 10/100 as pretty much all do nowadays.

maybe its hard set to 10 only? Try checking the advanced properties of the NIC.

It's the Intel 1000PM and I have gotten 100mbps before. Hmm... I checked the advanced settings and the Link speed is AutoDetect. I changed it to 100mbps full duplex and it said the cable was unplugged.

maybe the cable or router port isn't supporting 100 speed.
