Why is it when I take my laptop to my friends house and attempt to connect to his wireless router, I'm told my computer was unable to make a connection; yet, I get "Limited Access" but without Internet access? I enter his pword and still can't connect. Is there something I need to change on my laptop or on his computer to allow my computer to get Internet access?

We've tried everything. Resetting his router, checked settings on his computer, etc. All I can get when I try to connect is Limited Access. And that's with his password.

Also, we're both using Win 7.

We're both stumped, so any help would be greatly apprerciated. Thanks!

Have you put the correct password in? My friend at his house kept on getting "Limited or No Connectivity" and I put in his password, and off it went. Have you got wireless at your place? If so, how does that go?

Change the channel in his router to anything other than auto.

You need to know if your getting the DNS Servers and Gateway IP. Either one will kill you. See if you can "ping 209.191.122.70" if this fails the gateway is not valid. Then try "ping yahoo" if this fails the dns server is not correct.

Another thing that messes some up is that you have more than one location with the same ID. If this is the case you need to have one changed to something unique.

Then of course Personal FW can kill them too.

If the OP and his friend both have the same router with the same SSID, then the wireless card doesn't know the difference in the 2 places and will use the settings stored to try to access the friend's network. The addresses will be all wrong. Try going to "Manage Wireless Networks" and cleaning out the list... I've had that issue before, many times. People don't ever change the SSID... they just buy it and plug it up.

EDIT: I see that the comment right above me has said basically what I said... Sorry
