i just moved into a new apartment and when my girlfriend turns her dell xps1210 on she detects about 5 wireless signals all of which are around 1-2 bars of strength. however, when i turn on my hp dv5130 it doesnt even detect anything. it just keeps saying "no wireless connection found" or something. her dell laptop uses intel pro/wireless 3945abg and my hp laptop uses broadcom 802.11b/g. any help would be appreciated

The detection strenth by the Intel Pro/wireless 3945ABG could be better.

I know with my desktop, which uses a Belkin adapter, it doesn't pick up signals nearly as well as my dv1000 with the Intel Pro 2200 (I think) or my dv2000 with Intel Pro 3945ABG.

really..... I heard that the INtel pro/wireless has more flaws than the Broadcom. No, I'm not biased. I'm using the Intel Pro/Wireless.

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the wifi network adapter? It's suprising how often that works...

    *shrugs*

My friend with an HP that has a Broadcom (I think) can barely get my wireless network's signal in my living room while both my Intel 2200 and 3945 get full connection.

Perhaps it's hit or miss with some adapters.
