I recently got a new router, a Linksys E2000. One of my computers won't connect to the internet since I got this router. The problem doesn't seem to be the router or the modem, because I have 2 other computers, 2 PS3's, and a Blu-Ray player that can all connect just fine.

The computer that can't connect is a HP Compaq laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. My wireless adapter is a Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter. The security type I'm using is WPA2-Personal, encryption AES. (I have tried other security types, still nothing).

Connecting to the internet before the new router had no problems, it's just since I got the new router that I can't connect. The laptop will connect to the router, just with local access only. Also, when I hardwire it directly to the router it connects perfectly fine, it just seems to be something blocking the wireless connection from getting internet. I also tried reinstalling Vista to factory settings, and that still didn't change the problem.

Hopefully someone has had this problem or can see the problem that I'm not seeing, help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

just copy network profile connection settings to usb from working machine, put device inside HP and doubleclick exe file
To copy do: right button on working choosed network - abilities - in opened window choose connection and then push blue typed "copy net..."

I can't seem to figure out how to copy the profile connection settings by the way you explained it. It does seem like a good idea though, considering the laptop will connect but it says "unidentified" and only gets local access. If you could further explain how to copy the connection settings I would appreciate it.

    Thanks for your help.

Step by step do as it is shown in images. It will not be very easy because my language in windows is different but...
Once you push right button on name of your network (JamesNET in my case) you should choose Properties ("Свойства" in my case) and you will see a window security. Push connection ("Подключение" in my case) and push copy (In the last image there is a blue text. just push left button on it).

I had the same problem after new windows install and I copied profile from old windows one. I hope it was helpful for you

I see. I went to the exact place that you have in those images, and that blue text isn't there for me. I wonder if there's another way for me to copy the profile.

    Again, thanks for the help.

Hmmmm. You tried to copy from all working fine computers and nowere this text were found?
REMEMBER THAT YOU NEED TO BE LOGGED FROM ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT or administrator group If you are only user. You need to have admin properties to copy profile.

As you see It must be there... If you can't find it - try to run Diagnostic wizard hope it helps or try to set manually network somehow.
There must be additional ways to copy it using command prompt or something but I don't know how so search Google or make a new thread here.
    Sorry I didn't help

I'm logged in as admin for this computer, and that text isn't there. But I'm not able to try from the other 2 working computers because they aren't mine. Is it possible that the blue text will only appear on one certain computer?

No worries if this won't work for me, like I said I haven't been able to try from all working computers yet. Maybe I will be able to copy a profile from one of those. If not, I still appreciate your time to try and help me.

If anyone else has any other ideas let me know, I can give any info that's needed or anything. Thanks!

Maybe the Personal Firewall is blocking the connection. Remove any previous attempts to connect entries. Try turning off FW, reboot then add in the wireless.

It could also be a special chr in the WPA security key that it does not like if your using all printable chrs. I've had this problem in the past but not any time recently.

Also do an /ipconfig and double check that the gateway is set to the routers IP

    (post your /ipconfig /all here)

i've tried closing all firewalls, also tried turning off UAC and anything else that could be blocking the connection. and also tried changing the router security type a few times and still nothing.

also tried copying most of this working computer's IP settings into that one, aside from the actual IP of course. i'm pretty sure the wireless adapter isn't compatible with my new router. the wireless adapter is b/g and the router is N, and it seems nothing i do will fix that. i've tried plugging in a USB wireless adapter and that fixed it right away, so i think i'm just going to go with that.

I am sure your wireless router is compatible with b,g,n together. I also tried to change security type to wep and nothing helped until I copied settings to USB. You did not do that, right?

802.11 N is compatible with a/b/g so there shouldn't be any problem there. And you said that you have local access right? That means the wireless modes are compatible, you have locally appropriate IP information, you are properly authenticated, and if you are able to ping locally your ICMP protocols are making it through, so no firewall issues.

So the issue could be gateway and DNS, ARP gone bad, or some kind of filtering at the router.

What does pinging to the gateway and DNS return?

If you are familiar with wireshark, it's a good utility for debugging connectivity issues.

Also, could you post the requested IP information?
