I got my Linksys BEFSR41 router back in 2002. I was thinking about upgrading to a new mainstream model. Is it worth it? Is this old router a lot slower then the newer ones?

Really depends on what you use it for, if you just use it for e-mail and web browsing dont bother. for online gaming and downloads .... go for it, but keep the old SR41 around for backup those things were reliable as heck

I suggest the links i posted above. (of course disragarding the one over your budget)

And, i assume he wants a Wireless Router? Wireless Routers are much more popular than wired ones. And he is using a laptop. So why would he not want wireless?

im looking for a router that has wireless. But I will be doing all my gaming and downloading on hard wire. The wireless will just be used for low key tasks.

Well, since he is replacing a NON wireless router, why assume he needs a wireless?

    washy212,

Are you connecting with a wire? If so, there is no reason to upgrade.

Like gerryf19 is asking are you going to need wireless right off? Because the cheapest way is using what you have. If thats not good enough than do you have a old computer sitting around? I would make that old computer a router.
If you want to make a old computer a router try these out:

    http://www.ipcop.org/
    http://www.pfsense.com/

This is my cheapest router I can offer! Use what you have.

I believe the OP said he was looking for wireless capability, but only for "low key tasks." Still, if he's only planning on using wireless as an ancillary service, he doesn't really have to upgrade, so he might be better off saving his sheckels until he can afford a quality solution.

An old router can be just fine. What do you think of it? Is it fast enough for you? I had an old router back from 2004, and then we got a newer one, and it is a little bit funny - I think the older one is better than our new one!
