Ok i just bought an expensive router - DLink DIR-655 - Help needed setting up?

I am not able to get FULL SPEED through my router...

I checked the status of my router and the SIGNAL percent never goes above 50%...why is that?

Also the Rate (Mbps) is always below 20MBPS

I have a WIRELESS G card on my laptop, i dont use N.

Please help me on how should i make the router more stable so it doesnt disconnect and also get the most speed?

Most current routers allow you to control the strength of the signal to save power and make it harder for people outside your house to have access. Explore the various menus in the config interface and check whether there is an option for "signal strength", "signal power" or something like that, and put it at its maximum to try it out.
