The main W7 install I was using at home was originally upgraded to W7 from Vista (A Dell Precision T7500 - dual-Nehalem). And I didn't realise it at the time, but the problems cropped up after the upgrade.

What happens is two things: Occasionally webpages are not resolved (a retry works fine), and VPN tunnels remain established but traffic across them is interrupted or disrupted so that things like remote desktop sessions stop working.

File copies, etc across the network don't seem to be affected.

It doesn't seem to be hardware-related as I've just moved the OS installation over to a Mac Pro (also dual-Nehalem), and the exact same problems crop up. It is not happening with any of my other machines.

Any idea what could be the problem?

    Router problems, possibly?

No - as I said, it's not happening with any other PC on the network.

What wireless NIC do you have in the offending notebook?

It's actually a desktop. I figured since I mainly hang out here I'd post and see what responses I got.

    So the history is:

    - I had a Vista setup running on a Dell Precision T7400 workstation.

    - I then transferred this install to a Dell Precision T7500 workstation.

    - Then a couple of months ago I upgraded the Vista install to Windows 7.

    - Which is when I started noticing the problems. The machine has problems sometimes resolving websites, and maintaining VPN tunnels. It's not a predictable issue - sometimes the tunnel will stay up without issues, other times it goes down every 5 minutes or sooner.

    - No other machine on the network has the same issues.

    - Thinking it was a driver issue and believing I might be able to kill two birds with one stone, I then transferred the install to a Mac Pro by physically removing the boot SSD and installing it in the Mac Pro, booting off the Windows 7 SSD and letting the system reconfigure itself, then running Boot Camp setup to install the Apple drivers.

    - The problem hasn't gone away.

As a last ditch thing I'm considering a complete reinstall, but the system is basically carrying two years of setting tweaks, installs, etc and it will be a major hassle.
