    Hi guys,

I have quite a new laptop with an Intel 3945ABG wireless card in it. My router is a WRT54GL with standard firmware, and is about 4 meters behind me through a wall.

It is slow to browse, and I notice that when I download things (I've tried multiple sites/file types) my speed might go to say, 230kb/s, then to 14kb/s then to 0kb/s, back to 40 over and over again.

WHat could the problem be and how would I diagnose it?

    My network: wireless G only, channel 1, WPA2-personal TKIP+AES

    Tom.

Drop back to just WPA TKIP security. And what kind of signal strength are you getting? You may want to move to dd-wrt firmware. You have control of the power on the radio.

It's acting like it does not have a good signal.

Do you have any 2.4 ghz phones, bluetooth devices. these can interfere with the radio. MAy try a different channel, 6 or 11. Are any other networks in your area, if so use a channel that they are not using.

There are no other wifi networks in the area.

I have a bluetooth mouse & keyboard, and 2.4ghz DECT phones. This just started today, though.

I'll go back to normal WPA. The signal strength is excellent (5 bars).

Are you streaming video, or BT? If so it may be a over heating problem.
My guess would be the phone. When set on the base you should not have any interference. If off the hook, the base and phone will routinely send packets back in forth.
