I have an old (spare) wrt54g router (version 3 I believe).

Just wondering if anyone knows anything clever/cool/useful I could do with it? (I have another backup router, so if I accidentally destroy it, that's fine =D )

    1)Use DDR-WRT linux firmware

2)What I used to do is just leave that router broadcasting but have no Internet connection. Watch as people connect and get angry when there is no internet.

Haha, yeah I've got some modded firmware on it already. it would be funny to spoof some websites like google and see what people connect and search for. (but I would have no idea where to begin)

I use mine to set up a test network for my Linux server. It's much easier to monkey around with that router before actually going live and connecting to my real router.

    Incursis, I like that idea!

v3 are rare, and if my failing memory is any good that version has twice the ram as the current GL version. So you have a lot of options for linux code using dd-wrt.

    1. Run a RADIUS server on it (alternative firmware required) for uber security on your network.

    2. With something like DD-WRT, you could run it in client mode and use it to connect a Xbox.

    3. Sell it. $20 in your pocket could be used for other hijinx.

I might sell it, but I bought another one b/c I was having reliability issues. Perhaps I'll throw up DD-WRT and check it out, as I was running a different modded firmware. Thanks for the suggestions.

If you do deside to sell in on ebay, it will bring good money, more than you expect since it has extra ram. But you would be foolish to sell it, it's too good of a router.
