I want ot set up home network to share fies, printers and broadband internet.

I have bought Linksys WRT54GL, conected my cable modem, my desktop PC over ethernet port, and my notebook over wireless g with WEP.

Now, internet is working fine on both computers (both communicate fine with router) but I am not able to make them see each other in WinXP Home. I've run home network setup wizard on them and set up workgroup with same name and unique names for computers.

I also tried to set IP adresses manualy: linksys is on default 192.168.1.1 and I asigned 192.168.1.100 for desktop and 192.168.1.101 for laptop. Microsoft network is still unable to find other comuters.
I am able to ping router but not other computer.

    What should I do?

Refresh your list and try to name one of the mshome. Also, you can also try restarting your router to see if that works.

Did you enable sharing on both computers?

To make sure that the two computers see each other look at "my net sites" ( I'm not sure, in spanish is "Mis Sitios de Red"). There you have to see the other computer. Also yo have to do first is to search in propieties of the HDD and Share HDD and you will have almsot one folder ( "My shared folder") to show to the other computer.

Sometimes windows firewall screws things up for ya, try disabling it in both computers.

I have instaled firewall Trand Micro Internet security, so that may be the problem. I'll try to downgrade level of protection and see what happens (@mrjosh: I will post my results).

Should I turn off/uninstall software firewall now that I have router that include firewall function?

I would just disable the firewall temporarily and then test to see if you can connect. if you can connect you can then reenable it and usually create a rule/exception to allow those 2 machines to talk to each other without disabling the firewall permenatly.

It is working fine now that I have turned off firewall.
