Hey guys, I am running Vista on my laptop with a linksys router and today it just decided not to work.

I've run a couple of tools and it appears I am getting an IP address but not an external address. I've tried power cycling my router/modem, turning off security altogether, WPA,WEP,restarting the laptop, etc. My computer which is hardwired to the router is working fine. Any ideas guys?

yes I can log into my linksys router perfect.

Can I mention that on my laptop (running vista) it has the globe and the map shows that I am connected to my router AND I have an internet connection. Everything seems fine and when I diagnose the problem it says I do not have a valid IP address config.

I've pinged a couple different sites and have had no luck.

    Any help is appreciated.

EDIT:My Asus EEE and Nokia N95 can get on perfectly it just seems like its this Vista laptop.

Do you have MAC address filtering enabled?

No I don't, I have reset the router to all default configurations with no luck. After power cycling both the modem and the router for a longer period of time it worked again. I am getting an external IP address but any go at wireless security and the network shuts down again. No clue why this is happening. I am currently using no security until I can get the problem fixed.

Do your neighbours have installed the exact same wireless router with the same SSID in the same default config?

Hello, I've been having some serious network issues and everyone I have asked has referred me to you, so this is basically my last straw.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505/6400 w/ Intel 4965ABGN network card. (Windows Vista Home Premium) w/ latest drivers and whatnot.

-Linksys WRT110 router (Draft-N but has currently has the signal broadcasting G-only)

From the day I got this laptop, it would connect to the router perfectly and the network map would show that I am connected to the router AND internet and I got perfect pings to my IP with no loss in packets but failed to ping any website.

The IP addy looks good, DNS seems to be in order. I've dropped all security, reset my router completely with no success.

The weird thing is...just 2 hours ago I completely reset my router once again and it worked out of the blue. I am currently connected right now and this "out of the blue" connection has happened several times but either

    A.drops
B.connects to the internet but no pings after I restart/shutdown the laptop.

    Any clues?

P.S. I have a hardwired desktop to the router, an Asus EEE,PS3,and N95 all connected wireless with no problems but it just seems to be this one for some reason.

If you have AIM/MSN/some other instant messenger, please let me know!
