Do you need to re-run Netgear's Smart Wizard?

You may have not saved you setting in the router. Probably need to re-enter user name and password. Make sure you used the same pc used to setup the account, encase you need to clone your MAC address. Which should not need since the modem is in the router. If you originally had just a modem and no router, yes, clone your mac address.

Always use wired when setting up a system. Routers reboot when some changes are made, dropping your wireless.

But all the same settings are still there when i log into http://192.....

i just rebooted the router without making any setting changes, and it stopped dialing for the internet. Because usually when the router is reset, a little light (which represents an internet connection) flases orange when dialing, then it goes green connected, but it doens even go orange at all..

maybe i should re-upload the firmware onto it, although i cant seem to d/l it of the website...

so can someone please attach hte lates firmware from this link, thankyou...

Are you running through a UPS?

    if so go direct.

I have seen where for some odd reason the ISP had a user turn off DHCP. Doing so only allowed the pc used for the setup to work. And I have seen where on DHCP the pc used to do the setup had to be online before any one else could. User did not clone the setup PC into the router.

Do you get the green lite on the modem saying the DLS line is there?

Can you connect directly to the modem and get out? if not are you using the PC used to set up the account?

Remember for DSL requires the MAC Address of the PC used to setup the account. So if your using a different PC it will not connect. It is how the ISP control access. If you are on the PC used to setup the Account, Use the Clone MAC address in to the router, along with your user id and password. If not you can enter the MAC address you want to use.

If you have replaced the PC that was used originally you will need to contact the ISP and have them upgrade the info with the new MAC Address.

i havent replace the original PC, but its had an OS upgrade, will that afect it? it still has the same USB wireless on it...

what do you mean about the "directly connecting to the modem", its a modem router, its all one...

also there are only two lights showing, the power light and the wireless network light... normally there is two more...

Only the MAC address is used, so OS update should not matter.

Do clone the mac address into the router. Make sure you have your ID and PW correct. Then look at the log if you get a failure. Then use the connect feature and see it it works. If not contact your ISP and see if they can figure why it's not connecting.

I did not relise that it was a modem/router combo.

There should be a section with in the ISP setup. Should be near where you enter your login info. It may be a set of multiple boxes (6), It should actually say clone, Or use this MAC Address. See if the help with in the modem/router will get you to the right section.

Cloning is the process of making a device take the Address of another device. So once you clone the MAC address into the router. The ISP will only see the Cloned MAC address. Which will be the router new MAC Address. So the ISP will think your PC is connected, whether it's 1 or 100 pc's connected to your lan.

Is your ISP giving you a static or DHCP address?
I know most all DSL are PPPoE.

    ok ill try that, thanks...

as of the static DHCP...i have set everything to "Get Dynamically from ISP"... the only information they provided was my username and password...

When i first did setup the router it reckoned it was a PPPoA connection, i left it at that, it worked fine... until about 1 month later when this happened :(

my actualy router doesnt dial to the internet, i can connect to the router normally, but the router itself does not have an interent connection...

I would do reset to factory, and start over. It acting that something is missing. If Netgear has any updates for it, do it. And even reload the latest one. Then if it came with a setup wizard run it.

If you have a neighbor that has DSL with the same service provide. See if he/she can bring their modem over and see if it will detect the DSL line. If so you may have a bad modem/router. You should be able to hear the dsl noise on the phone line without the filter.

Contact your dls provider and have the check the line. They can do it remotely.

Only if the router you are using is registered with them. If you PC mac addresss used not.

Your particular modem/router is under a 2 yr warranty if I recall correctly.Use Netgear free email support. And see if they have something to try, That I have missed. Atleast you can get a RMA number if in warranty.

Just answer no to fix problem and continue. Then in the respose tell them what you think of there answer and they should move you up to a level 2 or 3 tech. Derek is a good one if you can get him.

If your unit is less than 90 day you still have free phone support, give them a call.

Have you tried a different phone line cable? Or has any one messed with the lines coming in? Connect a phone to the jack and see if it works.

If you have the newer Service jacks, you will have a connection where it feed the house. Connect your modem outside on the wall. If it's good you are having a wiring problem. The cheap line tester from Radio Shack will test for polarity. I think even Home Depot and Lowes carry them. Frys carries one that does phone line and network jacks. My guess something or someone has swapped the lines.

well heres the result of the phone call i made. Initially, the person i spoke to said that the ADSL is working fine into my house... so then they put me over to these PROPER tech guys. They were messing around with my line (whilst on the phone to him) and he managed to get it working  :D

He dropped the speed of my line till a decent connection was made, then bumped me back up to 8mb... it works fine now, fingers crossed...
