Hello everyone, I have a question with regards to remote access of a Desktop I have.

I am currently away from my home where I have this Desktop that I use to backup absolutely everything from my laptop/netbook.
I was wondering if there is software out there available which will wake it from Hibernation and allow me to connect to it from where I work so that I can send and receive files to/from it?

On an unrelated note, is there a program which I can set to run at startup (system resume or start-up) whereby the user is required to enter a password within a set time frame or the pc simply shuts itself down?

I don't know about hibernate (could be, I simply didn't look into it in a few months) but logmein.com will allow you to wake it from sleep and you can simply FTP files to and fro there. I used to use Filezilla server.

If you had a second system there, you could remote into that, and sent a wake up call through wake on lan, if it was setup. You can't send a wake signal direct through the internet though.

As mentioned you can wake from suspend with a remote app, but only if that is installed. One of the easiest to setup and configure is TeamViewer.

A other option would be to setup up a FTP server using a old PC or NAS. This keeps your pc safe at all times, not subjected to hackers. Then setup your router with the proper pointer to your server. I would highly recommend that you use a non-standard port for security reasons.

Depending on your ISP speed, the uplink speed is what needed for any remote server access.

Or you can setup a VPN connection to your existing pc.
