    Hello tNBR,

    I recently installed WiFi here, and my computer picks it up fine. However, my Nokia N82 does not pick it up at all. My friend's iPhone picked it up right away, but my phone (and my friends other Nokia N82) does not.

    Here's the thing; my N82 had no problem finding and connecting to my previous WiFi internet, but it doesn't find it now even though my friend's iPhone does find it.

    Why is this? Please help.

    It looks like your phone has WEP only for security and will transmit on a b/g wireless signal. You can get more details from the user manual on page 77. You will probably need to change some security settings on your router to allow it to connect to your network.

    That's not the case. User manual states that Nokia N82 supports:

    @Steria Make sure that SSID is not hidden and- that's only a remote possibility- that you are using 2.4GHz network not 5GHz one (check that on the router)

    OK so I quoted the manual incorrectly. The router settings will still need to be manipulated some to get it to work. That is if you can get it to work. Allot of small devices are a real pain to use with home networks. I have some devices that will not hook to the router at home but will hook up to my laptop through Connectify. I had to change my router settings temporarily to make my sons PSP recognize the router than change the router settings back once the connection was initially established.

    ....I still found my friend's home WiFi yesterday, and was able to connect up to it with my phone, but my phone doesn't find mine still.

    It's through COX; the Modem is a Motorola SB5101U SURFboard® Cable Modem, and the wireless router is a Dell.

    Please help me with correcting this issue. I can't seem to find it out myself, and I'd really like to be able to connect to the internet w/ my phone, because it's very handy (when it works that is). I have not done anything w/ the router settings or phone settings (haven't found out where, what or how to do it yet).

    Would this problem be related to the wireless router, or the cable modem?
    And how can I fix this?

    Can you post more about the router and some of it settings? If you can. Can't, try posting model first, we see if we can get the default login.

    Model: Linksys e3000
    Encryption: WPA-TKIP/AES
    Band: B/G
    SSID Hidden: No

    Cable modem is not a problem. Please post the settings that Falco152 asked for and model/name of the Dell router in question.
    Also make sure that MAC filtering is not enabled on the router.

    How can I see the Wireless Router Settings, and change it if necessary?
    I hope we can figure this one out, so I can use my phone with the WiFi.

    Thanks

    I'm assuming you are using 192.168.1.1 as the router address, using http as the config site, and the login info is default I hope :D.

    Open up your webbrowser, http://192.168.1.1

    The login/pw default is admin/admin.

    I'm looking at some info off this link portforward.com forum - DELL router - model WRTA-108GD -HELP.

    Go though the options, you can provide some screenshots of them which would help us help you get around.

    Hi Falco152. Thanks for helping me figuring out this issue. I am very grateful.

    I tried going into that http:// you provided, but it only came up a "Problem loading page; The connection has timed out - took too long to respond". I am using FireFox 5 if that has anything to say. I am not that "educated" within this field, but I do know a little something-something with computers. I have a Dell Latitude E6500 with Win7 Ultimate 64-Bit, but I assume (know for certain-) that has nothing to do with this issue. After all, I am a member at this Forum (meaning I know the power of the online community).

    Thanks again for helping, and I appreciate if you (and others) could help me further with "investigating" this issue, and how to get into the wireless router settings ++ . Thank you all very much.

    This router has default setup page at http://192.168.2.1
    Default login and pass both "admin" as stated by Falco152

    Ok, so the http://192.168.2.1 worked. Thanks downloads.

    Here's how the home screen looks like. I clicked on the advanced settings etc, but it wanted me to "save" a lot before getting to the next screens etc, so I did not do it. There was also a warning message after clicking the advanced settings, basically saying that you could screw up the router in this menu.

    If someone knows whats causing the phone not picking up the WiFi, please let me know what it is, and how to make it work. As I said, it's picking up other WiFi's, but sadly not my new one.

    ahh, whoops. I made blind assumption without reading the manual.
    I also forgot you might able to access that same page via Network Map in Vista/W7.

    Can you expose the Basic Settings and Advanced Settings to us, you can blank out the passwords and ssid section?

    I do not know what it can be, so I'll post pictures of the menus.

    Another question I have, is that when downloading with clients like uTorrent, the internet disconnects, and reconnects again after ~30 sec. I tried doing this via the ethernet cable, and it was no problem. Is there a restriction on the wireless router with amount of data allowed to pass trough or something? If I could get help with that also, that would be great.

    Steria, do you have Windows 7 on your computer. I have several devices in my home that have a difficult time with the router. I am able to hook those cell phones and book readers up by using my laptop as an access point.

    Cool
    Now expose the following

    Basic Settings -> Wireless Settings
    Basic Settings -> Wireless Security

    Advanced Settings -> Advanced Wireless
    --------

    As for the torrent thing, I think you are hitting the limit that the wireless handle connections. Try reducing the global maximum number of connection.

    The - Basic Settings > Wireless Settings - only had the network name (SSID) and different channels in a drop down box (auto, 1, 2, 3... up to 13).

    The - Basic Settings > Wireless Security - shown below has WEP/WPA in the first drop down box. The key format is HEX/ASCII, the key lenght is 40 bits/104 bits.

    [IMG]

    The - Advanced Settings > Advanced Wireless - has 802.11b and g / only b / only g. Then there is transfer rate auto / 1 Mbps / up to 54 Mbps. Channel auto / up to 13.

    Does the Nokia N82 pick up everyone else but yours?

    Also, I can't tell those ticks on the enable wireless and hide my network if the left box yes or no.

    Completely unrelated (probably)- Steria change your security from WEP to WPA2+AES. WEP has not been secure for years. It's been proven that it can be caracked in a minute.
