    I need someone to talk to me like I'm 4.
    I just built my HP dv4000 (Yea!) and after figuring out all of that I realized that I have no idea how to use my laptop to get on the internet. I equipped my new baby with bluetooth, and am going to be using it on campus quite a bit. But at home I still have dial up (I'm so ashamed)[V]. I've tried reading all of this online but I just don't get it. How am I going to get this to work??
    Thanks

    Bluetooth isn't going to help you, unelss you have a Bluetooth phone and data plan, so forget about that.

    To connect to your dial-up service, you need to go into network connections and create a new dial-up connection. You'll specify the phone number and your UN/PW.

    On campus you can probably find WiFi hotspots. You have WiFi in your computer so you can connect wirelessly at high speeds. Check with someone else to see where those might be available to you.

    unless you equiped your home network with a bluetooth router dont bother with bluetooth, its slow and... not useful (internet wise)

    get highspeed, get connected with your network port

    these are your options...

    1. laptop --> phone line --> dialup account
    2. laptop --> ethernet cable --> router --> cable/dsl
    3. laptop --> wifi --> wifi router --> cable/dsl

    bluetooth doesn't connect you to the internet, it connects you to other devices... you use bluetooth to "connect" your laptop to a pda, cel phone, digital camera, etc. (as long as those devices are bt enabled as well).
